Water Line Upgrade: Copper to PEX

In Tigard, OR, our customer contacted us, requiring a new water line connection for their ice maker and fridge. This problem required careful evaluation and precise solutions to ensure a reliable water supply for their kitchen appliances. Cornel’s Plumbing took on the task with professionalism and expertise. Here are the steps we followed to address the issue:

Water Shut-Off: We began by shutting off the water supply to the entire house and draining the water system. This step is crucial to ensure a safe working environment and prevent any unexpected leaks during the installation.
Valve Replacement: We removed the existing cold supply shut-off valve for the kitchen faucet and replaced it with a new quarter-turn dual shut-off valve. This new valve would serve both the kitchen faucet and the ice maker line for the refrigerator, offering greater convenience and control.
Copper to PEX Transition: In the crawl space where the existing ice maker line tapped into the copper water line, we cut out approximately two feet of copper pipe. We removed the tapped shut-off valve and connected the two sections of copper water lines with new PEX water lines. This transition to PEX offers enhanced durability and resistance to corrosion compared to copper.
New Water Line Installation: We reconnected the kitchen faucet supply line to the new dual shut-off valve and installed a new 1/4” water line from the dual shut-off valve. This line was routed through the crawl space and brought above the flooring behind the refrigerator, providing a clean and efficient installation.
Testing and Walkthrough: After completing the installation, we turned the water back on to the house and thoroughly tested all connections for leaks. We also conducted a walkthrough with the homeowner to ensure their satisfaction with our work.
